Professional Approved: 11 Best Baseball Recovery Products

best baseball recovery products

Every baseball player hits that moment in their baseball career when their body is not the same as it used to be. The days of waking up and being able to play baseball without using proper recovery products are a thing of the past. My goal is to help players become more familiar with the best baseball recovery products.

When we are younger and our bodies are still developing, our muscles are growing and becoming stronger. This means that younger baseball players may be able to handle more stress and strain during physical activity than older players.

As ballplayers get older, they will start to notice their arms and legs becoming more sore after their baseball activities. This is completely normal, but we need to stay on top of this fatigue to prevent injury or skill decline.

Maturing baseball players need to become familiar with recovery products that can help reduce fatigue/soreness. This will help to protect their body and have them prepared for their baseball workload.

Other variables come into play for handling soreness such as lifting, supplements, sleep, arm-strengthening, and more. There is no “one thing” that will keep your body feeling healthy forever. That is why it is important to implement different forms of recovery treatment into your routine.

I have used many recovery products throughout my professional baseball career. These products are a key component in my routine for helping me perform to the best of my ability. Consistency is the name of the game for being successful in baseball and incorporating recovery products into your baseball routine is a must. Health is wealth, I always support investing in yourself.

The recovery products I list are all items that I have used throughout my career. I do not recommend buying every single one, but they each have their own benefits so please find what would best suit your specific needs. I also suggest doing your own additional research before making a purchase.

Best Baseball Recovery Products

1. Marc Pro

Marc Pro Plus

This is by far one of the best baseball recovery products on the market. The Marc Pro is a type of electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) device that uses a low-level current to stimulate the muscles and promote recovery. If you were to walk into any professional baseball training room, you are going to see a lot of Marc Pros. They are one of the most commonly used items for baseball recovery and should be utilized by all players. Using a Marc Pro can help speed up the recovery process by increasing blood flow to the muscles, reducing inflammation, and promoting healing. After any day of baseball at the field, our professional baseball medical trainers always encouraged us to use a Marc Pro. This device works wonders at helping my arm recover and alleviate soreness. This tool is great to use before bed, after throwing, or even before throwing! The cost is a little on the high side, but I believe it is worth every penny. I will list a great alternative below.

2. TENS Unit (Alternative to Marc Pro)

TENS 7000 Digital TENS Unit with Accessories - TENS Unit

This is a great alternative to the Marc Pro. The Marc Pro Plus is specifically designed to aid in muscle recovery and rehabilitation, whereas the TENS Unit serves as a device that provides a broader range of pain relief and muscle relaxation. Notably, the Marc Pro Plus is highly customizable, easy to use, and durable, rendering it the preferable option for individuals searching for a specialized device to aid in muscle recovery and rehabilitation. I do think the Marc Pro has a stronger current and more precise targeting effect. The Tens Unit also requires a battery, whereas the Marc Pro can be recharged. If you want to save money, this will get the job done.

3. Cupping Kit

Premium Quality Cupping Set w/ 19 Cups ***BEST CUPPING SET

One of the most effective recovery products for baseball players because of the instant relief. Cupping therapy involves creating suction on the skin to help promote blood flow, reduce muscle tension, and alleviate pain. Another one of my favorite products for recovery, cupping is a treatment tool used by every professional baseball organization. The one thing I love about cupping is that you can apply the cups to practically any area of your body. Arm, shoulder, hamstring, back, you name it. Cups do a great job of providing instant relief and improving range of motion. This is extremely important for baseball players that are constantly throwing. When you have a poor range of motion, your arm velocity and health are at risk. I do not recommend using cups before a heavy workload. They should be utilized on recovery days or if you know you have a low workload the following day. Also, I strongly advise adult supervision while performing cupping. You should also apply lotion to the desired area before using the cups. There are plenty of instructional videos that can assist in how to use these cups correctly.

4. TheraGun

TheraGun Pro Handheld Deep Tissue Massage Gun - Bluetooth Enabled

Soft tissue treatment is important for baseball players and this is a key tool used for recovery. A Theragun is a handheld massage device that uses percussive therapy to help relieve muscle tension and soreness. Professional baseball training rooms have these products on deck ready to be used by any baseball player. The TheraGun can be used on any body part to help promote blood flow to the area. Baseball players will commonly use them on the arm or even their hamstrings before games. TheraGun even comes with different massage heads that create different sensations when targeting the muscle.  Taking control of tight muscles is key for baseball players to perform at their best.

5. TOLOCO Massage Gun (Alternative to Theragun)

TOLOCO Massage Gun, Mothers Day Gifts, Deep Tissue Back Massage

The Theragun typically offers more power than the TOLOCO Massage Gun, which means it can provide a deeper massage and may be more effective at targeting stubborn knots and tight muscles. If you are looking for a cheaper price tag, this will be your solution.

6. Muscle Floss Band

WOD Nation Muscle Floss Bands Recovery Band for Tack and

One of the best baseball recovery products for promoting fresh blood. Muscle floss bands are compression bands utilized by professional baseball players to enhance recovery, alleviate pain, and improve mobility. The band is tightly wrapped around a specific muscle group to generate pressure, facilitating the elimination of any adhesions or knots within the muscle tissue. In addition, the compression can also elevate blood flow to the affected area, promoting quicker healing and reducing inflammation. During a recovery routine, baseball players usually wrap the band around their arm and move it through various motions to increase blood flow. This band is particularly useful before and after throwing as a recovery aid.

7. Nromatec

NormaTec Pulse 2.0 Full Body Recovery System Standard Size for

Normatec is a type of compression therapy device that uses pneumatic compression to improve circulation and accelerate recovery. In a professional baseball training room you are guaranteed to see players using this device. The Normatec has different attachments including, legs, hips, and arms. If you are feeling sore in any of these areas, you simply put the correct Normatec attachment on and let the unit go to work. The best way to describe what the Normatec does is that it will fill with air and get very tight on the area you are targeting. This will increase your blood flow and ultimately improve recovery. The Normatec is a best friend to baseball pitchers, but I recommend only doing it at the end of your baseball workload.

8. Heating Pad

Calming Heat Massaging Weighted Heating Pad by Sharper Image- Weighted

One of the biggest lessons I have learned from professional baseball is that we need to rely more on heat, not ice. Ice should primarily be used if there is an actual injury and you are trying to reduce swelling and inflammation. For sore baseball players, ice will not be the best recovery method. Heat increases blood flow and helps promote muscle relaxation. If you have an arm or hamstring that is sore, you are going to want to apply heat before performing and baseball activity. I love using a heating pad because of its simplicity. I can use it while lying in bed or even in the morning before my baseball work. I highly recommend incorporating heat into your baseball recovery routine.

9. Portable Sauna

Durasage Lightweight Portable Personal Steam Sauna Spa for Relaxation at

Any professional athlete will tell you that they believe incorporating the sauna into your recovery routine is beneficial. A sauna is great for baseball players because it can increase blood flow, improve cardiovascular health, enhance recovery, boost immune function, and promote relaxation and stress relief. The sauna can help to enhance recovery by increasing the production of endorphins, which are natural painkillers. This can help to reduce muscle soreness and promote relaxation after games and workouts. As I mentioned earlier, professional baseball players like to rely on heat more than ice. The sauna does a tremendous job of having my body refreshed and recovered for my next baseball performance.

10. Cold Plunge

Explore Fitness Large Portable Ice Baths *Dec 2023 Upgrade* For

Professional baseball players utilize cold tubs to help reduce inflammation and promote faster recovery. Immersing your body in cold water can help constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling, which may help alleviate muscle soreness and speed up recovery time. I personally used the cold tubs when mostly dealing with leg or back pain. This is a much easier solution as opposed to individually icing each muscle part. Another neat form of therapy used by professional athletes is contrast therapy. We were able to do this with a cold tub and a hot tub, but you could do this with a sauna and cold plunge as well. To perform contrast therapy, you alternate between the cold plunge and the sauna. Generally spending between 2-3 minutes in each. The cold water will help constrict blood vessels and reduce inflammation. The heat from the sauna will help dilate blood vessels, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. Repeat the cycles and enjoy the recovery!

11. Massage Tool

Medical Grade Stainless Steel Gua Sha Guasha Massage Soft Tissue

When professional baseball players receive soft tissue from their athletic trainer, a popular strategy is the Graston Technique. Graston Technique uses stainless steel instruments to massage and apply pressure to soft tissue, breaking down scar tissue and adhesions to promote healing. This technique can be performed on any body part that is experiencing stress or soreness. Baseball players will primarily have this done on their, shoulder, bicep, tricep, forearm, and even hamstring. Graston Technique is considered safe when performed by a trained practitioner. I have used plenty of massage tools on myself and find them to be one of my favorite recovery methods. I normally apply soft pressure to my desired area and am looking for the spot that seems to get red the most. This is telling me that there is an increase in blood flow in the area and I should focus more on that specific spot. You should use lotion or coconut oil when using this tool. I also recommend a mature adult be in control of the massage tool.
